Samantha Morrell from Button Hole kid to Golf Scholarship at Old Dominion University

Samantha Morrell played at Button Hole as a young teen. She credits Button Hole with removing the financial barrier by allowing her to play for just $1.

In 2005 Sam performed a feat at Button Hole that to this day has never happened and that most golfers will never come close to achieving. She made three holes in one in two days, two of them at the same hole! We knew there were great things to come from Sam and she proved us right.

Now Sam is a member of the class of 2013 at Division One Old Dominion University in Norfolk, VA on a golf scholarship.

Sam says girls should see golf as a chance to feel empowered. It is probably one of the few sports where girls don’t have to be as physically strong as the boys to beat them! I would tell girls who start playing to never stop. They will have it for life. And it may just reveal some hidden abilities that girls never knew they had.

Sam recently played in the C & F Bank Intercollegiate at Ford’s Colony Marsh Hawk Golf Course in Williamsburg. In a 21 team event with 112 players Sam came in 2nd with a 69-78.

While not every Button Hole kid goes on to win a college scholarship, over 6,000 youths have participated in our programs whether in school at our summer camps, through our mentoring programs, or just heading to our urban course to practice hitting a bucket of balls. In our eyes they are all winners!
